Aspidelaps lubricus - Coral Cobra

This is a captive that I had the privilege to work with and shoot today.

It is a smaller cobra species that is found is South Africa, Angola, and Namibia. Although they are highly venomous, they are rarely considered lethal, and the only two known fatalies caused by Aspidelaps were toddlers.

To see how I created the "desert" backdrop, check it out here: [link]

This is my Holy Grail of snakes....to get a shot of a cobra in full hood. Wow. :)

Gorgeous shot.

Haha. They are kinda cute. This one is tiny too. Just over a foot long.

Is it full-grown, or a baby? I didn't know there were cobras that small.

It's last years baby, so it's just a yearling. It'll end up being about 3 feet or so long.

nice shot!

It's a little unnerving to photograph something so close that is so venemous!

Thank you. It's not that unnerving for me. I've been dealing with venomous snakes for years and I was shooting this guy from way outside of his strike range.
